| Question: | Why is "back pressure" included in the Pocket Pump operating terms? What does this reading mean? |
| Answer: | The Pocket Pump can be operated in two modes: constant flow mode and constant pressure mode. The pump keeps FLOW constant when in constant flow mode and PRESSURE is being kept constant when pump operates in constant pressure mode. The back pressure reading becomes important when the pump is in the constant pressure mode in the same way that a flow rate reading is important when the pump is in constant flow mode.
Constant pressure mode is used when one needs to sample through multiple tubes. You can find more information about constant pressure mode on page 21 of the Pocket Pump Operating Instructions at http://www.skcinc.com/instructions/37717.pdf |

| Question: | Why do the Pocket Pump Operating Instructions recommend that I perform the initial battery charge of a new battery with the battery detached from the pump? |
| Answer: | Completely charging the new battery pack detached from the Pocket Pump provides a slow charge that is best for the battery and provides optimum performance. |

| Question: | What does the Pocket Pump FAIL display mean and how can I clear it? |
| Answer: | FAIL may display for two reasons:
- When the pump is switched from HOLD to RUN it immediately jumps back to HOLD and scrolling through the display (by pressing the * key) reveals FAIL. This can be due to the battery pack having insufficient capacity to start the pump motor. This is not to be confused with a discharged battery pack that just needs recharged. The battery pack either has developed a fault or is at the end of its life.
- FAIL may display due to an internal problem with the electronics.
Resolution:
- Remove the battery pack and replace with a new charged battery pack. Run the pump and scroll through the display. If the pump runs and FAIL is not displayed, all is well
- If FAIL is still displayed, the fault is in the electronics and the pump should be sent to SKC for repair.
