Methylene Chloride:
New Worker Exposure Limit

In January 1997, OSHA issued a new standard that lowered the limit on worker exposure to methylene chloride to 25 parts per million (ppm) for an 8-hour time weighted average and 125 ppm for a 15-minute short-term exposure level. If methylene chloride is used in the workplace, the new standard requires employers to monitor worker exposure to methylene chloride to determine if any employee is being exposed in excess of the permissible exposure limit (PEL).

Why Monitor Your Workers?

Workers who breathe high-levels of airborne methylene chloride can experience narcotic effects, irritation of the skin and mucous membranes, respiratory problems, and aggravation of heart disease symptoms; OSHA considers methylene chloride to be a potential occupational carcinogen. It is important to know if your workers are being exposed to harmful levels of methylene chloride so that effective controls can be put into place.

With SKC Passive Samplers You Can Assure Your Workers' Safety

SKC provides passive samplers that meet OSHA's stringent criteria for methylene chloride sampling. These samplers are unobtrusive, require no special training or equipment, and are so easy to use.

SKC 575 Passive Sampler With SKC passive samplers, you can save time and money
  1. Fast
  2. Just clip a lightweight sampler to a worker's shirt lapel, record the start time, and you are ready to begin sampling.

  3. Convenient: one sampler for STELs or PELs
  4. Passive samplers are suitable for short-term 15-minute or full shift 8-hour sampling.

  5. One sampler lasts all day
  6. There's no need to use multiple samplers for 8-hour sampling. This saves you money in both sampler and analysis costs.

  7. Cost-effective
  8. No equipment to buy; no training required. SKC Passive samplers are reliable and accurate for monitoring methylene chloride.

Easy-to-use Passive Samplers

  1. Remove from pouch and record start time on sampler label.

  2. Clip on worker's shirt lapel, near the breathing zone, or in sampling area; sample all day for an 8-hour time weighted average or 15 minutes for short-term exposure levels.

  3. Seal with cap and record stop time on sampler label.

  4. Send to any AIHA-accredited laboratory for a complete analytical report (a list of laboratories is included with each sampler).
