The Multiple-inlet GS-3 Cyclone
The GS-3 Cyclone is a 10-mm lightweight conductive
plastic unit used with a standard three-piece cassette with filter
for the collection of
respirable dust particles. The GS-3 Cyclone’s removable cassette
adapter fits securely into the middle ring of the filter cassette during
sampling. Designed to meet the ACGIH/ISO/CEN respirable convention, the
GS-3 Cyclone has a 50% cut-point of 4 µm (bias within ISO/NIOSH
requirements) at 2.75 L/min* or 3.5 µm
at 3.7 L/min† for alternate applications.

GS-3 Cyclone Superior Performance
With low mean bias and higher flow rate requirements, the
GS-3 Cyclone provides better sampling accuracy when compared to the
performance of other
cyclones used for respirable dust collection. Furthermore, the multiple-inlet
GS-3 Cyclone overcomes sampling problems reported with the Dorr-Oliver
Cyclone.
GS-3 Cyclone's Unique Design
 |
- Conductive plastic construction
- Eliminates static collection problems with charged particles
- Safe for underground mine use
- Tangential inlets lessen sampling errors
that can occur when particles impact on the wall of the cyclone
opposite the inlet.
- Multiple inlets eliminate sensitivity
to wind velocity and user orientation to the contaminant
source.

GS-1 Cyclone
The lightweight 10-mm single-inlet GS-1 conductive
plastic cyclone provides performance equivalent to the Dorr-Oliver
Cyclone, with the advantage of conductive plastic construction. Conductive
plastic eliminates the electrostatic effects experienced with the
non-conductive nylon Dorr-Oliver Cyclone and is safe for use in underground
mines. The GS-1 Cyclone is designed for use with the SKC DPM Cassette
and for respirable dust sampling.
GS-1
Cyclone Versatility
The GS-1 Cyclone may be operated at different
flow rates for sharp particle size selection that meets your
application.

The GS-1 Cyclone is designed
to meet the ACGIH/ISO/CEN respirable curve with a 50%
cut-point of 4.0 µm at
2.0 L/min. The GS-1 Cyclone can also provide a 3.5-µm
50% cut-point when operated at 3.0 L/min for alternate
applications. |
Using the GS-1 Cyclone with the SKC DPM Cassette
The SKC DPM Cassette is
designed for sampling in atmospheres where it is necessary to separate
diesel particulate matter from other
respirable dust (such as coal dust) based on particle size. The precision-jeweled
impactor and impaction substrate, loaded into a streamlined single-use
cassette, screens out and retains respirable particles > 1.0 µm.
Particles less than 1.0 µm are collected on a heat-treated
low-carbon quartz filter. The GS-1 Cyclone is used with the DPM Cassette
to
prevent filter overload where larger particles (> 4 µm)
may be present as indicated in NIOSH Method 5040.
| Multi-purpose Calibration Jar |
The SKC Multi-purpose Calibration Jar provides
convenient calibration when using a GS Cyclone, PUF tube, or
OVS tube. Instead of packing four or five
different calibration adapters for the field, pack only one Multi-purpose
Calibration Jar. The rugged 32-ounce polypropylene jar contains
a quick screw cap and barbed fitting for easy use.

The SKC lightweight Filter Cassette/Cyclone
Holder (225-1) enables a GS-3 Cyclone with three-piece
cassette
(inlet section removed) and filter to be attached to a worker’s
collar, close to the breathing zone, for true respirable
dust sampling.
The SKC Filter Cassette/Cyclone
Holder is required when sampling with the GS-1 Cyclone with
DPM Cassette.
