For Light-sensitive Compounds
Black Layered
Tedlar and Clear Tedlar with Stainless Steel or Teflon Fittings
Frequently used for collecting light-sensitive compounds
black Tedlar sample bags eliminate the need for cumbersome
outer containers to protect
the sample. SKC black and clear layered Tedlar bags allow for the
convenient protection of light-sensitive compounds,
while maintaining the integrity
of the samples with an inner clear Tedlar layer. Black Tedlar contains
carbon black that can absorb some compounds to the bag. Laboratory
test on standard black Tedlar bags showed degradation
after 24 hours compared
to equivalent test with clear Tedlar. Using the black and clear layered
Tedlar bag eliminates this problem. The SKC black and clear layered
Tedlar bags are available with either a single stainless
steel or Teflon fitting. |

About the NCASI Method
For Sampling reduced sulfur compounds, the National Council for Air and Stream
Improvement (NCASI) evaluated Tedlar sample bags with a light blocking layer
(NCASI Tech Bulletin 656). For this method, SKC recommends a black layered Tedlar
bag with a Teflon fitting (240-08B) or a stainless steel fitting (233-08B). When
sampling for hydrogen sulfide using a stainless steel fitting, there is the possibility
of sample loss (less than 10 %) that does not occur when using a Teflon fitting.
