FlexFoil Bags FAQs

SKC FlexFoil® Grab Bags provide light and moisture protection for low molecular weight compounds such as hydrogen that are unstable when collected into standard Tedlar bags. Use a low flow air sample pump with exhaust port, such as the SKC 222 Sample Pump (Cat. No. 222-3) or Grab Air Sample Pump (Cat. No. 222-2301), with SKC FlexFoil Grab Bags.

The FlexFoil Grab Bag Advantage

Prevent permeation: Four layers of foil material prevent permeation in and out of the bag.

Inert: The inside surface is inert, minimizing absorption and adsorption of compounds.

Strong: SKC FlexFoil Grab Bags have strong, evenly sealed seams making them ideal for mailing or shipping to a laboratory for analysis. The four-layer foil material is stronger than Tedlar.

Light-protective: Protect light-sensitive compounds without the use of an outer container or black Tedlar.

FlexFoil Grab Bag Applications*

  • Pollution level monitoring in work areas
  • Site sampling and mobile surveys
  • Transferring calibration gas from lab to instrument
  • Preparing calibration mixtures
  • Assessing exposure from leaks and spills
  • Indoor air studies (CO, CO2)
  • Carbon dioxide in workplace atmospheres (OSHA ID-172)
  • Carbon dioxide (NIOSH 6603)
  • Carbon monoxide (OSHA ID-210 )
* FlexFoil Grab Bags are not suitable for collecting many VOCs found to be stable in Tedlar, FlexFilm, or Teflon.
Method specifies 5-layer foil bags. SKC 4-ply FlexFoil has been shown to hold 100 ppm CO for 5 days without loss. See Analysis of FlexFoil Bags for Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, and Hydrogen (PDF)

About FlexFoil Grab Bag Fittings

SKC FlexFoil Grab Bags are available with an easy-to-use single septum fitting made of stainless steel or polypropylene. Choose the fitting that best fits your application.
Stainless Steel Fitting

Stainless Steel Fitting: This unique, patented fitting combines the hose/valve and septum fittings into one easy-to-use unit. Fitting construction prevents leakage and ensures that the sample is exposed to only inert materials. This fitting reduces the cost and overall weight of using stainless steel when stainless steel fittings are specified.

Polypropylene Fitting
Polypropylene Fitting:
The industry standard, this patented lightweight, inert fitting combines the hose/valve and the septum holder into one compact fitting.
