Gas Sample Bags

Reliable Gas Bag Sampling

Gas sample bags are a convenient and accurate means of gas and vapor samples in air. This is particularly true in areas where the concentration is above the detection limits of common analytical instruments. Many chemical hazards can be effectively collected by sample bags. But, while the collection method is simple, the selection of the bag, fittings, and tubing is critical.

TechTips

Blue triangle When sampling for light-sensitive compounds, use black and clear layered Tedlar® bags.

Blue triangle Use only Teflon® tubing and Teflon-lined septums for bag sampling.

Blue triangle Flush the bag thoroughly with purified air or nitrogen before using.

Blue triangle Do not use bags to collect unstable or highly reactive compounds.

Blue triangle Do not ship sample bags by air unless the cargo cabin is pressurized.

Blue triangle Avoid filling the bag more than 80% of its maximum volume. At the end of the sampling period, turn the pump off and close the valve on the bag.

Avoid overfilling bags
Blue triangle Sample bags are not intended for the storage of hazardous materials. If you suspect that your sample bags may contain hazardous materials in concentrations above the safe levels defined by NIOSH, OSHA, or DOT, you may need to refer to special federal and state packaging and transportation regulations.

High Quality Materials

Tedlar ®

Unlike other sample bag materials, Tedlar film resists gas permeation both into and out of the bag. This assures sample integrity and valid data for all applications.

  • Tough and Flexible
Tedlar film retains its tensile strength and toughness allowing for reuse and a long service life for many applications. Tedlar is rated for continuous use from -98 to 225 F. This wide range of operation allows for use in very cold or very hot environments including stacks, vents, and flues.

  • Chemically Inert
Tedlar film is inert to a wide range of chemicals. Since Tedlar will not react with or alter the composition of collected chemicals, sample integrity is assured.

Tedlar Sample Bags

Single Polypropylene Fitting

Tedlar Bags with Single Polypropylene Fitting

These industry standard sample bags utilize a lightweight, patented single fitting of inert polypropylene that combines the hose/valve and the septum holder into one compact fitting.

Single Stainless Steel Fittings

Tedlar Bags with Single Stainless Steel Fitting

These economical sample bags feature a unique stainless steel fitting that reduces the overall weight of using stainless steel by combining the hose/valve and septum fittings into one easy-to-use unit.

Dual Stainless Steel Fittings

Tedlar Bags with Dual Stainless Steel Fittings

This flexible bag system features two stainless steel fittings: the hose/valve for flushing, filling, and sealing the bag and the septum with a syringe port for removing samples for analysis. The fittings are easy-to-use and provide sampling flexibility and reliability.

Black and Clear Layered Tedlar

  • For Light-sensitive Compounds
Frequently used for light-sensitive compounds, black and clear layered Tedlar sample bags eliminate the need for cumbersome outer containers to protect the sample. The SKC black and clear layered Tedlar bag combines a standard 2-mil clear Tedlar film inside a black layered Tedlar bag for convenient protection of light-sensitive compounds, while maintaining the integrity of the sample.

Layered Tedlar Sample Bags

Stainless Steel Fitting

Layered Tedlar Sample Bags with Stainless Steel or Teflon Fitting

The SKC black and clear layered Tedlar bags are available with either a single stainless steel or Teflon fitting that combine the hose/valve and the septum holder into one compact fitting.

Teflon ®

Sample bags made of Teflon, the most chemically-inert sample bag material, offer the ultimate performance in bag sampling. Teflon performs well under severe temperature conditions, from cryogenic to high temperatures, and is insoluble in all solvents below 300 C.
  • Wide Temperature Range
Teflon bags are ideal for stack sampling. Teflon film performs over the temperature range of -400 to 399.2 F (-240 to 204 C) which is suitable for all stack sampling applications.

  • Inert to a Broad Range of Chemicals
Teflon is the most chemically inert of all the plastics. In fact, Teflon film is solvent-resistant to virtually all chemicals except molten alkali metals, fluorine at elevated temperatures, and certain complex halogenated compounds such as chlorine trifluoride at elevated temperatures and pressures.

Teflon Sample Bags

Teflon Fitting

Teflon Sample Bags with Teflon Fitting

Gas sample bags made of Teflon are the most chemically inert of any bag material and offer the ultimate performance in bag sampling. The Teflon fitting combines the hose/valve and the septum holder into one compact fitting.

Stainless Steel Fitting

Teflon Sample Bags with Stainless Steel Fitting

All the benefits of Teflon, the most chemically inert bag material, plus convenience and economy of stainless steel fittings. The single stainless steel fitting combines the hose/valve and the septum holder into one compact fitting.

FlexFoil Grab Bags

  • For Sampling Low Molecular Weight Compounds
FlexFoil Grab Bags provide light and moisture protection for low molecular weight compounds such as hydrogen that are unstable when collected into standard Tedlar bags. To prevent permeation in and out of the bags, SKC FlexFoil Grab Bags are specially designed with four layers of material. The inside surface is inert, minimizing absorption and adsorption of compounds.

FlexFoil Grab Bags

Stainless Steel and Polypropylene Fitting

FlexFoil Grab Bags with Stainless Steel or Polypropylene Fitting

SKC FlexFoil grab bags are available with either a single inert polypropylene or stainless steel fitting that combine the hose/valve and the septum holder into one compact fitting.

SamplePro FlexFilm — Only from SKC!

The new SKC SamplePro® FlexFilm bags are constructed of SKC proprietary material ideally suited for collecting air samples. Manufactured exclusively for SKC, FlexFilm features lower VOC background and shows the same sample stability for VOCs as seen with Tedlar. When combined with a patented lightweight all-in-one polypropylene fitting, the result is a sample bag with lower background, longer storage times for many VOCs, and the greatest ease of use.

Stainless Steel and Polypropylene Fitting

SamplePro FlexFilm Bags with Stainless Steel or Polypropylene Fitting

SKC SamplePro FlexFilm bags are available with a single inert polypropylene fitting that combines the hose/valve and the septum holder into one compact fitting; or with a dual stainless steel fittings — an inlet valve for flushing and filling and a septum fitting for removing samples. The fittings are easy to use and provide sampling flexibility and reliability.
